What makes crescent ice different?
Most cube machines freeze water in a grid and release a sheet of cubes. Hoshizaki's KM machines form each crescent individually on a stainless steel evaporator. The result is a hard, clear cube with a distinctive half-moon shape:
- Displacement and cooling: the curved shape packs well in a glass and gives broad contact with the drink.
- Dispensing: the cubes slide easily, which is why crescent ice is popular on beverage dispensers and soda fountains.
- Presentation: it is clean and recognizable in soft drinks, water and mixed drinks.
Crescent cube is Hoshizaki's signature ice shape, so every model on this page is a Hoshizaki. Compare it with full cube and half cube ice from other brands.

Who chooses crescent ice?
Quick-service and fast-casual restaurants on soda fountains, hotels, sports bars and healthcare cafeterias that want a clean-looking cube that dispenses reliably. For bars and cocktails, many operators run crescent cube in the well and a large cube or sphere maker for spirits.
Protect the evaporator
Filtered water reduces scale on the evaporator and keeps cubes clear. Hoshizaki's own filter systems include the H9320-51 single, H9320-52 twin and H9320-53 triple filters. Match the filter to your machine's production. Browse all Hoshizaki ice machines.
