D-series features
Every D-series bin shares the same design, per the product pages:
- Duratech exterior: a durable metal finish that resists fingerprints and wipes clean.
- Arctic Blue polyurethane liner: a smooth, food-safe interior.
- Foamed-insulated door with side grips and a stay-open hinge. The door opens to a 53-degree access angle and stays there, so staff can scoop with both hands.
- Included: a sanitary scoop, an internal scoop holder and one set of adjustable 6-inch legs.
- 3/4-inch drain.
- NSF and AHRI listed.
F-series upright bins
The F1300 and F1325 are built for high-volume operations where staff fill carts, tubs or bags quickly:
- Stainless steel exterior with foamed-in-place insulation and a polyethylene liner.
- Polyethylene lift door, sliding ice gate and sliding windows. The gate lets ice flow into containers without scooping.
- Installed snout adds 8 inches to the cabinet depth; allow 18.5 inches in front for the door.
- Included: single-head adapter (K483048 on the F1300, K603048 on the F1325), sanitary scoop and four 6-inch legs.
- 1-inch FPT drain.
- 5-year parts and labor warranty under Manitowoc's F-style bin commercial warranty, plus limited lifetime corrosion coverage on the cabinet exterior (including top and trim) and the interior liner.
Which Manitowoc bin goes with which head?
Match the bin width to the head. Manitowoc rates application capacity at 90% of internal volume times an average ice density of 33 lb per cubic foot.
| Indigo NXT head | Width | Bin options |
|---|---|---|
| IDT0420A, IDT0620A | 22 in. | D320 |
| IDT0300A, IDT0450A, IDP0500A, IRP0500A | 30 in. | D400 or D570 |
| IDP0600AP | 30 in. | D570 |
| IDT0900A, IDP1000AP, IDT1200A | 30 in. | D570, or D970 / F1300 with an adapter |
| IDT1900A and high-volume systems | Large | D970, F1300 or F1325 |
The Manitowoc Indigo NXT page lists every head. Heads on wider bins need an adapter or deflector, sold separately for D-series bins; F-series bins include a single-head adapter. Confirm the exact pairing in Manitowoc's application guide or on the product page. See bin adapters and deflectors .
Sizing: how much storage do you need?
A bin should hold your busiest period's ice, not your daily total.
| Head output at 90/70 | Hours of production the bin holds |
|---|---|
| IDT0300A, 230 lb/day, on a D400 (365 lb) | About 38 hours |
| IDP0500A, 421 lb/day, on a D400 (365 lb) | About 21 hours |
| IDP0500A, 421 lb/day, on a D570 (532 lb) | About 30 hours |
| IDP1000AP, 790 lb/day, on a D570 (532 lb) | About 16 hours |
| IDP1000AP, 790 lb/day, on a D970 (882 lb) | About 27 hours |
A bin that holds 16-24 hours of production lets the head build a full reserve overnight for the next day's peak. Read our bin sizing guide .
D400 vs D570: same width, different height
Both are 30 inches wide. The D570 holds 532 lb, 46% more than the D400's 365 lb, but stands 50 inches tall with legs instead of 38. With a head on top, a D570 system is taller, so check ceiling height and the reach needed to service the head.
Installation
- Level floor strong enough for the bin, head and a full load of ice.
- Drain: 3/4-inch for D-series, 1-inch FPT for F-series, run separately with an air gap per local code.
- Clearance: leave space above for the head and its service access, and in front for the door. F-series bins need 18.5 inches in front.
- Delivery: check door widths for 48- and 60-inch bins.
Care
- Keep the scoop in its holder, never in the ice.
- Clean and sanitize the liner, door and scoop whenever you clean the ice machine.
- Keep the drain clear.
- Don't store anything else in the bin.
Ice bins are insulated, not refrigerated. Ice slowly melts, so the drain is essential.

Cleaning a Manitowoc bin, step by step
- Turn off the head and empty the bin, or move the ice to a clean container.
- Wash the Arctic Blue liner, door, gasket and scoop with a manufacturer-approved cleaner.
- Rinse with potable water.
- Sanitize all food-zone surfaces with an approved sanitizer.
- Let surfaces air-dry, then restart the head.
Clean the bin whenever you clean the ice machine, usually at least every six months, and more often in healthcare.
Bin vs dispenser: which do you need?
| Bin with a head on top | Ice dispenser | |
|---|---|---|
| Who takes the ice | Staff, with a scoop | Customers or staff, self-serve |
| Storage | 264-1,238 lb in Manitowoc bins | Usually 10-95 lb |
| Best for | Kitchens, bars, banquets, back-of-house | Lobbies, offices, hotel floors, healthcare |
Many sites use both: a head on a bin in the kitchen and dispensers at self-service points. See Manitowoc countertop ice dispensers .
Worked example: a 250-seat restaurant
A restaurant with an IDP0500A head (421 lb/day at 90/70) uses about 160 lb of ice between 5 and 8 pm, when the head makes only about 50 lb.
- Ice needed from storage: 160 - 50 = about 110 lb.
- A D400 (365 lb) covers it easily, with reserve for a busy weekend.
- If the restaurant later adds a bar program using another 100 lb at night, the D570 (532 lb) gives more headroom in the same 30-inch footprint.
Stacking two heads
Large bins such as the D970 and F-series can carry more than one head, side by side or stacked with the correct Manitowoc kit. Two heads add capacity and backup: if one stops, the other keeps making ice. Confirm the combination in Manitowoc's application guide.
Choosing between the D400 and D970 for a 30-inch head
A 30-inch head can sit on a 30-inch D400 or D570, or on the 48-inch D970 with an adapter. The wider bin makes sense when:
- You plan to add a second head later for capacity or backup.
- Your peak period needs more than about 530 lb from storage.
- Staff need a wider door opening to fill large tubs or carts.
Otherwise, a 30-inch bin is simpler, cheaper and takes less floor space.
Manitowoc bin maintenance calendar
| Task | Frequency |
|---|---|
| Check the drain flows freely | Weekly |
| Wipe the door, gasket and scoop holder | Daily |
| Clean and sanitize the liner, door and scoop | Whenever the head is cleaned, at least every six months |
| Inspect door gasket and hinge | At each cleaning |
| Check legs are level | Every six months |
Common mistakes
- Choosing a bin narrower than the head. Always match or exceed head width.
- Forgetting the adapter for a narrower head on a wider D-series bin.
- Ignoring height. The D570 and D970 are 50 inches tall with legs, before the head.
- Sizing by daily output. Size for your peak period.
- No clearance in front of an F-series bin. It needs 18.5 inches.
