Wet granular ice — often called chip ice — is soft, moldable, and easy to chew, with a 40–50% residual water content that makes it ideal for chilling drinks, displaying fresh food, and patient care. The IQ 1300 W3 produces this ice continuously through a stainless steel auger system and drops it out of an opening in the bottom of the unit into the bin below.

The "W3" designation means this unit is water-cooled (the "W") and runs on three-phase power (the "3"). As a water-cooled machine, it rejects heat into a water supply rather than into the air, which keeps electricity use low and output steady — at the cost of much higher water consumption, so it needs a reliable water supply and proper drainage. The three-phase supply spreads the electrical load evenly and suits larger kitchens, production facilities, and industrial buildings already wired for three-phase service.
